What Should I Do If I Have A
Critical Care Patient Living In My Home?

If you or another family member depends on life support, and the loss of electricity affects these life support systems, please alert Southern Pioneer prior to an outage occurring. You can do this by providing SPECo with written proof (a letter) from an attending physician that your or your family member requires such equipment. SPECo will then red-flag your address in our system. No utility can guarantee that your electric service will not be interrupted. This simply allows us to know of the medical need at your location.

SPECo will only begin giving critical care members priority when it line personnel begin restoring power at the tap-line and individual home level of our restoration process. We will make every effort to fix your problem as quickly as possible, but if there is damage up the line from your location, it must be repaired first for power to even be distributed to your home. Caregivers of in-home critical care patients should always have an evacuation plan or a plan for how to handle extended outages in the event of a natural disaster or severe storm.

Southern Pioneer cannot guarantee uninterrupted power to any home or business. Consumers with critical care needs are strongly encouraged to have backup plans to move to locations with power in an emergency.
