BACKGROUND

Southern Pioneer Electric is proud to announce our Southern Pioneer Electric Scholarship Program. This scholarship program is designed to benefit our customers’ dependant children embarking on a secondary education who live and attend school in Southern Pioneer Electric’s service territory. Application Deadline: April 1, 2008

AWARDS

Southern Pioneer Electric will award one $750.00 scholarship to each of the 14 high schools in its service territory. A list of the schools is located on the front cover of this application packet.

This program distributes geographically, ensuring that scholarship recipients will represent all schools throughout Southern Pioneer’s service territory.

ELIGIBILITY

To be considered, the applicant must meet the following criteria:

  • Must be a current high school senior planning to enroll as a full-time student (12 semester hours or more) in an accredited two or four-year college, vocational school or university, in the U. S. for the 2008 - 2009 academic year.
  • Preference will be given to students whose parents or guardians reside in the Southern Pioneer service territory.
  • Applicants should be in good standing with their school and actively involved with their community.

SELECTION CRITERIA

Scholarships will be based on the information provided on the application form, the personal statement, academic performance, extracurricular activities, work experience and individual goals.

Please Note: This application is not complete without the following:

  • A completed application form with both applicant and parent/guardian signatures
  • An official high school transcript
  • A typed 400 - 450 word personal statement addressing the questions in the “Application Instructions”
  • ACT or SAT Score (Provided by High School Counselor)

Application Instructions

Read the application carefully and completely. Applicants should submit a typed personal essay of 400 - 450 words addressing all of the following questions:

  1. What have been the most important experiences during your high school years that have prepared you for college?
  2. What do you wish to achieve from your college education?
  3. Why should you be considered for a Southern Pioneer Electric Scholarship?

Include - or request to have sent - an official high school transcript.

Both applicant and parent/guardian must sign the last page of the applications.

Notification Process

Scholarship recipients will be selected by a Southern Pioneer Electric Company committee. All applicants will be notifi ed in writing by May 1, 2008.
