On November 7, the Southern Pioneer Electric Helping Us Give to Society (HUGS) team presented Medicine Lodge’s Leisure Time Senior Center with a donation to help repair their dumbwaiter and more.
The $3,000 HUGS donation was matched by CoBank, giving the senior center a total of $6,000 for repairs and renovations. CoBank, a cooperative bank serving agribusinesses, rural infrastructure providers and Farm Credit associations throughout the United States, is the main lender for Southern Pioneer Electric and matches certain donations throughout the year, via its Sharing Success program.
“Our commitment to our seniors is never something to be taken lightly and being able to help a community’s senior center like this is an amazing way to give back to our consumers,” said Southern Pioneer Electric Energy Services Coordinator and HUGS team member Dee Longoria.
The center has two cooks who cook over 2,000 meals each month for the community, as well as sending cooked food to Pratt for their seniors. The building itself is also used for local reunions, meetings and community events.
“We were very, very pleased and appreciative of Southern Pioneer. They went above and beyond their duty by contacting CoBank and again, we are just beyond appreciative,” said the Senior Center Board President Ella Rundle.
